The most important things are the hardest things to say. They are thethings you get ashamed of because words diminish them - words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they're brought out. But its more than that, isn't it? The most important things lie too close to wherever your secret heart is buried like landmarks to a treasure your enemies would love to steal away. And you may make relevations that cost you dearlyonly to have people look at you in a funny way, not understanding what you're said at all or any you thought it was so important that you almost cried while saying it. That's the worst, I think. When the secret stays locked within, not for want of a teller, but for want of an understanding ear.

Don't we all remember how it was, as a child, to enter a story innocently only to emerge at the other end utterly wrung out, red-eyed, and in some intangible way transformed?

Both emerge from a distance that can be approached only by faith. And when you get there, all you find is yourself.

-Walter Mosley

edit: at time, "both" pertained to novels and short stories. but to me, it was josh and i...or myself and love...and life...its confusing now, and i wish i had written this then. it also has to do with me always searching.
